Therapy for KidS in Denver, CO

It’s hard to see your child struggle—whether that’s with making friends, attachment, challenging family dynamics, anger, anxiety, or food—and children don’t always have the language to express exactly what’s going on and what they need. Children often communicate through play, movement, and creativity long before they have words to share what they’re feeling. As a child therapist, I offer a warm, developmentally attuned approach for children to explore their emotions, learn coping skills, and build resilience.

I am formally trained in Sandtray Therapy, a science-backed approach that helps children process their experiences through symbolic play. Sandtray, along with other play-based therapies, engage the brain’s sensory and emotional systems, supporting regulation, integration, and healing in a way that feels natural to kids.

In sessions with me, children are offered choice and flexibility. Sandtray may be one pathway, while other play and art activities, such as drawing, games, or imaginative play, are always available. I enjoy engaging in each child’s interests, allowing therapy to unfold in a way that feels empowering rather than overwhelming.

“You can discover more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation.”

AN IFS Approach for children and families

My work as a child therapist in Denver is also grounded in Internal Family Systems (IFS), a compassionate, evidence-based model that helps children understand their inner world in a non-pathologizing, curious way. Many families recognize IFS concepts through resources like the movie Inside Out, Dr. Becky’s work, and gentle parenting frameworks, all of which emphasize that all feelings make sense and that behavior is often communication.

By using IFS language in sessions, children learn that they have different “parts” of themselves with different feelings and needs, and that none of these parts are “bad” or “wrong.” This approach supports emotional literacy, self-compassion, and nervous system regulation, while helping parents better understand what their child’s behavior is asking for.

Parent Coaching and Family Therapy

I believe supporting children also means supporting the adults who care for them. In addition to individual child therapy, I offer parent coaching and family therapy. This may include helping parents respond to big emotions, strengthening connections, navigate transitions, or align parenting strategies with their values.

When appropriate, we’ll work together as a family—creating consistency, trust, and understanding across home and therapy. My goal is to help families feel more confident, connected, and supported as they grow together.

If you’re seeking a child therapist in Denver with extensive training with kids and families, who values science-backed play, emotional growth, and collaboration with parents, I would be honored to support your family.
